Mr. SAM Café｜A Virtual Reimagining of a Sleeping Fairy Tale

Located in Shoufeng Township, Hualien, Mr. SAM is a fairy-tale-like mushroom-shaped restaurant that seems to have stepped right out of a storybook, attracting countless travelers to stop and take photos. This café, with its unique architectural exterior, playful landscaping, and forest-inspired atmosphere, was once a popular photo spot in the Hualien-Taitung area, where many visitors captured memorable moments.

However, with the sharp decline in tourism in recent years, Mr. SAM has temporarily closed, becoming a “nostalgic landmark” in the hearts of many past visitors. To preserve this story-rich space and allow more people to experience its fairy-tale atmosphere even if they cannot visit in person, I conducted a comprehensive 720° panoramic photography and virtual tour setup before the restaurant closed.

Virtual Tour Highlights

This virtual tour project uses high-resolution DSLR panoramic photography combined with Pano2VR virtual tour production to comprehensively document the building’s exterior, surrounding environment, indoor dining spaces, and thematic decorations.
Users can freely move their view and position by swiping and clicking, as if experiencing this dreamy space in person.

Production Insights

Every scene was captured with the goal of “preserving the story’s memory.” Beyond the technical aspects of shooting and post-processing, I aimed to let viewers feel the unique charm and spirit of this mushroom house through the tour. Even though it is temporarily closed now, its story continues to live on in the digital world through the virtual tour.

This is precisely the meaning of virtual tours: not just a tour, but a way to preserve time and space.
