Meeting of Style Hualien|Complete Virtual Tour Record of Hualien Street Art
Meeting of Style Hualien Taiwan graffiti event recently took place in Hualien, Taiwan, attracting artists from Taiwan and around the world who transformed over 50 walls into vibrant works of art. Originating from Germany, this international graffiti festival turned Hualien City in eastern Taiwan into a canvas for street art. These artworks adorn walls, alleys, and buildings throughout the city, infusing the neighborhoods with energy and showcasing diverse artistic styles—including typography, geometric patterns, portraits, and representations of local cultural elements. The artists express their personal styles and ideas while incorporating local characteristics, creating a unique cultural atmosphere in Hualien’s streets. The graffiti styles displayed range from cartoon characters and calligraphy to realistic portraits.

This year’s event was not only about artistic creation but also integrated hip-hop culture, featuring live DJ performances and freestyle rap, bringing fresh energy to the local scene. One of the event’s main goals was to revitalize tourism in Hualien, especially after the city has faced multiple natural disasters like earthquakes in recent years. The mayor of Hualien hopes that these vibrant graffiti artworks will attract more visitors and help stimulate the local economy and community recovery.
One of the event organizers is German artist Manuel Gerullis, who is Meeting of Styles the founder of the International Graffiti Festival. Since its establishment in 1997, MOS has been held in numerous cities worldwide, serving as a platform for graffiti artists to exchange ideas, showcase their work, and collaborate creatively. The MOS event held in Hualien not only introduced graffiti art to the local community but also attracted art enthusiasts, tourists, and young people, bringing vitality and energy to the city.
This is Meeting of Styles the second time the event has been held in Taiwan, with the first taking place in 2022 in New Taipei City. The event’s founder, Manuel Gerullis, also attended the occasion, adding an international perspective. This graffiti event thus transcended being merely a local art exhibition and gained global influence.
This tour particularly integrates:
- Artist Instagram accounts
- Artwork descriptions and creative concepts
- Google Maps location links
- Interactive hotspot design within panoramic tours
The graffiti festival in Hualien aims to promote local tourism development, especially after multiple natural disasters, bringing hope for community revival. The Hualien City Government hopes that this international graffiti art festival will attract more visitors and, through these vibrant street artworks, establish Hualien as a new artistic landmark in Taiwan.
This is not only an exhibition record but also a question between art and urban development: How can street art endure within a space? Can virtual tours provide more opportunities for dialogue around these ephemeral creations?
Why choose virtual tours?
Street art is inherently site-specific and time-sensitive, and virtual tours perfectly overcome these limitations. Users can access the tour scenes anytime and anywhere via smartphones, tablets, or computers, immersing themselves in the graffiti of Hualien. Each tour point features interactive hotspots that provide artist information and social media links, transforming the art exhibition into an ongoing, participatory, and open experience.
We believe that through the extension of virtual tours, not only can artworks be preserved for longer periods, but Hualien can also become a key node in the international art network.
